Exploring Faith & God
Am I hearing from God?
resource type: info
Tests to help discern if you are hearing from God.
Does it glorify God? (1 Corinthians 6:28; 10:31; Colossians 3:17;
1 Peter 4:11) Any activity that a follower of Jesus engages in must glorify God. If it fails to glorify God, then it should not be engaged in.
Does it agree with God's Word? (Psalm 119:105; Isaiah 8:20; John 12:48) Any activity a follower of Jesus engages in must agree with God's Word. The Holy Spirit never leads a person into doing something that is in disagreement with the Word of God.
Is it what the Holy Spirit is saying? (1 Corinthians 2:9-16; Isaiah 30:21)
Is it what the Holy Spirit is saying to others? (Acts 13:1-3; 2 Corinthians 13:1) The Holy Spirit will often say the same thing to other people around you. In major decisions it is important to ask other mature followers you trust to pray with you about the decision.
Does it lead to freedom? (John 8:31-32) The activities and direction of the Holy Spirit always leads to freedom.
Does it create life? (Romans 8:5; 2 Corinthians 3:6) The activities and direction of the Holy Spirit lead to life.
Can what I am considering be done in faith? (Romans 14:23) If what a person is planning or considering cannot be done in faith, then it is not God's direction.
Does it work for everyone else? What if your parents did this? The Pastor or a Teacher? Would what you are considering be OK for others to do? If not, then what you are considering may not be God's leading.
